TOBACCO REGION SCHOLARSHIP/LOAN FORGIVENESS PROGRAMS

2024-2025  Award Guidelines

The Tobacco Region Scholarship funds tuition only as a "Last-Dollar Effort". Last-Dollar Effort means that all other financial aid that can only be used for tuition MUST be applied to the student's account before the Tobacco Region Scholarship award can be applied. If no tuition balance remains after the other financial aid is applied, no award will be issued under this program.

2024-2025 RENEWAL APPLICANTS (Students who received an award in  2023-2024)

Students who applied and received assistance from the 4-year college program in 2023-2024 will be given first priority, provided he/she enters a 2024-2025 application and is in good standing with his/her college or university.


2024-2025 NEW APPLICANTS (Students who did not receive assistance in 2023-2024)

Applicants will be rank ordered by cumulative GPA from 4.0 to 2.0, with the highest cumulative GPA awarded first.
To the extent that funding is available, next priority will be given to:
 
1. 2024-2025 College Juniors and Seniors, with a declared major in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math or Allied Health (STEM-H), including Community College Transfer Students..
 
2. All other 2024-2025 College Juniors and Seniors enrolled in declared majors other than STEM or Allied Health (STEM-H), including Community College Transfers.
 
3. 2024-2025 College Sophomores, by GPA.
 
4. 2024-2025 College Freshmen with an acceptance letter from a 4-year college, by High School GPA rank ordered from 4.0 to 2.0, with the highest cumulative GPA awarded first.
 
Awards are based on the availability of funding and criteria established yearly by the Virginia Tobacco Commission.
